Myanmar -Burma or Burma, as you like- is one of the few countries in Asia where the monetary issue is quite awkward.

When I say that they accept dollars it is not any type of dollar. The tickets have to be plus ironed That the shirts that your mothers iron you. If you go to the Yangon market, money changers will look methodically at each ticket looking for bent points, stains or cracks. If they find any of these things they are very likely not to accept it.

Theirs then is to calculate an approximate budget and try to bring the right amount of dollars, always pulling high.

In many places - trains and hotels mainly - it will be more advantageous to pay directly in dollars because the owners put the prices in the American currency and if you want to pay in the local they make an unfavorable change.

To us about the ironed tickets and conserve dollars to pay for the hotels they did not tell us and we made the barbecue with the consequent loss of pasta. I hope you don't get caught by the bull!
